cleaning

well, i'm drawing a blank on a "waste" post.

so i thought i'd tackle a subject that

very often feels like a real waste of time.

but probably isn't completely.

to intro this idea, here is one of my favorite quotes:

i'm sure that every one of you who

has small children has had this experience

...many, many times.

consequently, my house usually looks something like this.

not horribly messy (much of the time),

but just as i get one room tidied up

(often with help from the rugrats),

i turn around and the

next room has completely exploded.

are you happy?

a very good question.

is happiness the most important thing?

what does it really mean to be happy?

will simply changing something in your life make you happy?

can happiness last?

is happiness a right?

it seems to me that as a society we value happiness,

oftentimes above all else.

but isn't happiness fleeting?

have you ever been able to hold onto happiness, really?

a perfect question, in the words of Dr. Phil, is:

"How's that workin' for ya?"

i would say, not so well.

i mean, hasn't the pursuit of happiness alone

made us into one of the most

self-serving and

UNhappy

cultures in the world?

look at us...we're a mess!

reflect for a moment on Oswald Chambers words:

"Holiness, not happiness, is the chief end of man."

could it be that we are pursuing the wrong goal?

clearly this little poster,

which certainly has merit in some regards,

has stirred up many thoughts and questions.

my thoughts on happiness are many and quite varied.

and much too lengthy for this venue on this day.

there are so many virtues so much more worthy of pursuit:

joy, peace, contentment, holiness, love, compassion.

happiness alone seems so transient, and ultimately, futile.

and based on what?

little blue desk

our home is rather small,

so our kids share one bedroom.

there are many things that we like about that.

however, our girly-girl has really been

feeling the need for her own space.

so we began to search for a

small desk to make her own.

a few weeks ago we hit the jackpot on craigslist!

this cute, sturdy desk just needed a little tlc.

so it was sanded.

paint was selected.

and we spent a beautiful sunday afternoon painting!

the girly-girl got her turn.

as did the boy-boy.

and little moo.

now it's quite charming, i'd say.

and the girly-girl has a space all her own.

addendum

last thursday the boy-boy and i baked

some delicious eggless zucchini bread.

it's gone now, because it was super delicious.

better than zucchini bread with eggs.

in lieu of candy (they still got plenty from other sources)

we got our kids these cool

handmade wooden toys for easter this year.

i wrapped them and hid them in the living room

and they hunted for them.

in addition to being fun to play with

they make super adorable decorations!
